Travel toy recommendations for 2-year-olds
We sincerely appreciate the Traveling with Kids! subgroup in our WhatsApp community for always asking great questions and generously sharing tips and recommendations!
Here’s a consolidated list of airplane-friendly travel toy recommendations for 2-year-olds:
Painter’s tape and cotton balls — Stick little pieces of tape to the tray / window with a cotton ball “flap” at the end, and let your toddler pull them off. The cotton ball provides them with a better grip.
Busy board — This weighs just under 9 oz (250 g), so it’s not bulky but has enough heft that you should easily notice if it’s been misplaced.
Mess-free activity books, such as Water Wow! or Sticker Wow!
Magnetic fishing game — The original game recommended does not seem to be available anymore, so here is an alternative.
Digital toddler flashcards — A community member created this iPhone app (that works completely offline) with Montessori-inspired flashcards for ages 1-3 with 100+ foundational words.

Outdoor travel toys for toddlers (i.e., easy to pack for use at your destination):
Bubbles (fubbles for spill proof or bubble guns)
Beach toys with collapsible bucket
Sidewalk chalk if that’s allowed at the property
Can’t go wrong with bouncing balls
We also invite you to check out a community member’s blog, which includes a list of travel toys for toddlers.
Snacks are always a must-pack and may be more important than toys for your toddler.
